American men who want to learn how to be a good husband are at a distinct disadvantage. Our country's concept of what it means to be a man is nonsense. Men are told that they can't express their feelings, hug or show affection for their partner, or do any of the other things necessary to be an awesome husband. Fortunately, with just a little bit of work every day, you can make yourself the awesome husband that your wife wishes you were. No matter why you think you are a bad husband, the good news is that you're already trying to improve. The fact that you're researching how to be a good husband means that you are willing to change. Congratulations, you're well on your way. I think there are three simple things you can do every day to turn yourself into the kind of husband that your wife will be proud of. Here they are: 1. Take stock of your marriage. The simple act of sitting back and thinking about the state of your marriage will improve your husband skills immensely. Every day, whether it is in the morning or the evening, stop and think to yourself "What can I do better?" If you're the writing type, go ahead and write this stuff down. Simply taking stock of your behavior and your marriage will improve the happiness in your marriage tenfold. 2. Talk to your wife. Men aren't often encouraged to open up and share their feelings. Talking to your wife everyday about something besides "the bills need to be paid" or "the kid got in trouble at school" is crucial to forming a strong marriage. 3. Listen to your wife. Many men confuse talking to their wife with listening to their wife. The words "listen" and "silent" contain the same letters for a reason. Listening to your wife means shutting your trap and actually paying attention to what she says. |
